Another in the series…
Have you noticed that there are more mosquitos around your garden? I have! The moisture in the soil attracts them.
Did you know that your skin is the largest organ of your body? Yep, it has a total area of about 20 square feet. Yikes! That’s a lot of area for mosquitos to attack!
Our skin is very important because it helps us regulate our body temperature, protects us from microbes and allows us the sensations of touch, heat and cold. Treat it kindly with less chemicals…
I’ve mentioned that many essential oils have natural chemical properties that are known to repel insects. For example Geranium, which has the compound citronellol, which is also in the citronella plant (Cymbopogon nardus) used to make citronella oil. You might know that plant better as its common name, lemongrass. But Rose oil also has that same compound, citronellol. In fact Rose oil is comprised of 55% of citonellol as compared to Geranium’s 35%. For our spray, we’ll use Lemongrass oil, but you could substitute it with geranium, or peppermint, or even a combo of lemon and peppermint. Experiment! A little goes a long way!
The oil of lemongrass contains citral, geraniol, myrcene, limonene and citronellol, all natural oils often found in insect-repelling candles.
Make your own Bug Repellent sprays!
4-ounce glass spray bottle
2 ounces of FCO
2 ounces of distilled water
Combine in spray bottle then add:
20 drops of lemongrass essential oil
Shake well before applying. Spray on skin and clothing as needed (take care to avoid eyes and mucous membranes). Reapply every few hours as needed.
BOGO week starts on Monday, July 16 and lasts thru the 20th! What a great time to stock up on your oils! 😀😀
